Tesco Express Oxford Road plans rejected!!!!

Just heard the great news that the Tesco application at Parsons Garage on the Oxford Road has been rejected.  Residents and local businesses were very concerned about the impact this store would have on their lives and livelihoods.

There was a planning meeting held this evening where Cllr Chris Maskell spoke against this proposed store highlighting concerns about increased noise and traffic.  The site is on a very busy section of the Oxford Road next to a crossing, school and bus stop.  Any increase in car journeys would have had a very negative effect on the quality of lives and safety of residents and those taking children to and from Oxford Road Community School.  I spoke at the last planning meeting asking for rejection based on safety concerns and the impact on local businesses.

Many residents and businesses put a lot of time and effort into opposing these plans and they should be congratulated.  Labour councillors have also worked hard putting together a case for rejection.  This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when a community works together.  Well done folks!
